General Secretary of the Private Schools Employees Union of Malawi (PSEUM)

In Malawi one third of  teachers in Private schools did not get their salaries for March. The school owners say they could not pay the fees since the schools closed abruptly leaving some learners with unpaid school fees. With the pandemic still on and the schools are unlikely to open for theirs term which was to start on 20th April, it means that over 20,000 teachers will be unpaid as school owners say they rely on school fees for them to pay teachers and the government is mum on what it will do to help the situation.
