MEHMET TÜRKMEN – A TEXTILE UNION LEADER UNDER ARREST

Prof. Santo Di Nuovo • Italy
No person should be imprisoned for defending ideas and civil rights. Prison is not the solution to social conflicts.

Prof. Mônica Pirozi • Brazil
The criminalization of leaders who help mediate social conflicts undermines fundamental civil rights. ASPUV Seção Sindical states that social disagreements should be addressed through dialogue and constructive negotiation, with full respect for labor and human rights, and condemns the arrest of the textile sector union leader, Mehmet Türkmen, in Türkiye.

Evans Kaganizo • Uganda
Government should engage in positive discussion with workers, instead of criminizing the Trade Union Leadership. We send our Solidarity sympathy, and call for his release.

Nandani Pushpa • Sri Lanka
Government should take the remedial actions for the problems of the workers and for the workers before they occur. Even new laws could be written in favour of workers because they are the people who raise the economy of the country. We send our deepest solidarity sympathy and prey for the man in the leadership. Let’s condem the arrest of the textile sector union leader, Mehmet Türkmen, in Turkiye.

Radhakrisna Sadien • Mauritius
Workers in Mauritius stand in solidarity in support of Brother Mehmet Türkmen leader textile sector union of Turkey. We condemn such an action and we are requesting his immediate release. ILO ’s Centenary Declaration for the future of work recognises labour rights as a fundamendal element of the Decent Work. Arresting a trade union leader is a violation of trade union rights. The State and Other Employees Federation of Mauritius is following closely the matter and is with you in this international campaign.

Abdalwahed.M.Haje • Irak

We justify the legitimate struggle of our comrades for their rights therefor ask the relevant parties not to obstruct the professional struggle anymore and release him as soon as possible. Long live freedom, long live the professional struggle.

A Call for Solidarity for the Victory of the Working Class
Whilst impoverishment, unemployment and lawlessness are being imposed on the working people in all the capitalist countries of the world, and whilst workers’ and labour organisations are failing to organise a united struggle—indeed, with many trade unions, associations and chambers collaborating with the capitalist class—we are unable to rouse the world to action, even in the face of open attacks on workers’ leaders, as exemplified by the case of Mehmet Türkmen, General President of BİRTEK-SEN. Our primary task must be to ensure the unity and solidarity of the working class’s trade union-organised struggle at both national and global levels. Trade union and political structures that shirk this duty will be held to account before history by the workers and labourers. All trade unions and trade unionists who have failed to stand in solidarity with Mehmet Türkmen under these fascist conditions must be exposed. An end must be put to bureaucratisation within trade unions and their detachment from the masses. A breakthrough must be made to eliminate the lack of organisation within society, particularly among the millions of unorganised young workers and labourers; to this end, we must move forward with programmes that instil confidence and hope in the masses. All trade unionists, workers’ leaders and labourers who have been detained or arrested, including Mehmet Türkmen, must be released immediately. Liberation from exploitation and oppression can only be achieved through the united struggle and solidarity of the working class. Long live solidarity with Mehmet Türkmen!..
