HACETTEPE ACTION COMMITTEE

What has been done so far?
A departmental boycott committee composed of student volunteers from each department was formed. Departmental representatives were elected from the boycott committees of each department. Faculty committees were created with representatives from the departments. Representatives of the faculty committees formed the general boycott committee. Events and forums were organized in departments and faculties under the leadership of faculty boycott committees. During this process, each faculty made its own decisions and activities.

Current situation
On March 19, Hacettepe students demonstrated outside the campus like the school had never seen before. Following a meeting with ODTU on March 20, Hacettepe students participated in marches not only on campus, but also in Kuğulu and ODTU. The 1 week academic boycott continued with actions. The students, who initially met in joint forums, open lectures and events, moved on to activities in their own departments and faculties.

Problems Experienced

March 26, 2025
The students who had gathered in the morning in front of the Faculty of Administrative and Economic Sciences were the first to receive the dean’s order to leave, as they had not allowed classes to take place for two days. Afterwards, security agents forcibly took away the posters and banners and physically intervened against the students. Previously, the Private Security Units had made
threats saying that they would gather all the security there, that they had the right to intervene.

April 4, 2025
The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, which we contacted through our school’s teachers and students, was distributing soup from a vehicle in the campus dining hall plaza. The vehicle was taken out of the school with the intervention of Private Security Units.

April 7, 2025
Students from the Faculty of Fine Arts were not allowed to enter the faculty. The Private Security Units did not let the students enter the faculty, saying: “How do I know you are students? You have a different purpose”.
